a country Christmas

Tonight we went to A Country Christmas at Marmon Valley Farm. I had heard from someone several years ago that this was a really neat event and worth going to. In the past, we've decided not to go because, well, it's December and it tends to be a bit chilly in December around these parts... We decided this was the year to do it though - time to get over the cold and just go to some of these Christmas events! (Isn't it ironic, that this seems to be the coldest December since I've lived in Ohio???)

Anyway, despite the frigidity (it was about 17 degrees when we left Lima), we put on our long johns, ear muffs, sweatshirts, snowpants and coats and headed to Marmon Valley Farm. We got there right on time and got onto the tractor-pulled wagon for our moonlit tour of the farm and five scenes depicting the Christmas story. The concept is excellent - real people acting out the story - Gabriel and his proclamation to Mary and reassuring Joseph... Mary & Joseph in Bethlehem... the shepherds and the angels... a stop inside an "inn"... the birth of Jesus.

To put it all in perspective, as we drove home we asked Noah what he liked best about our trip to Marmon Valley Farm. His response? "I liked playing at the car table with the little kids." After our ride around the farm in 15 degree weather, they gave us hot chocolate and cookies and there was a little play area for small kids... yep, we donned 4 layers of clothing and froze our patooties off for the highlight to be a warm room, a small table with car tracks and a few cars to race around it.

I guess all that's left to say is, "been there, done that, don't need to do it again!" :)
